A traction idea born in Canada

In Canada, winter is not just a season.

It means ice, snow, cold and conditions in which people still need to get to work, farmers need to keep working, forestry professionals need to reach their machinery, and heavy equipment must keep moving.

That is the environment in which iGrip was born.

Not as just another winter accessory, but as an answer to a very simple question:

How can a wheel gain more grip on ice simply and quickly, without complicated systems?

FROM A CANADIAN IDEA TO iGRIP

In 2015, iGrip began specializing in the design and manufacture of screw-in studs in Canada.

The idea was simple: create a stud that could be screwed directly into a tire tread or another suitable surface and removed again when it was no longer needed.

But that simple idea required much more engineering.

A stud must do more than screw in.

It must stay in place.

Its working tip must withstand contact with ice.

It must be strong enough for demanding working conditions, yet light and easy to install.

This is how the iGrip screw-in stud system began.

A SMALL COMPONENT. A BIG DIFFERENCE.

When you hold an iGrip stud in your hand, it looks very simple.

Yet every part has a purpose.

iGrip studs use a tungsten carbide tip – an extremely hard material designed for contact with hard and icy surfaces.

The steel stud body is protected against corrosion, while the coarse thread is designed to anchor securely in rubber.

Many SS series models use an enlarged supporting section – the “shoulder”. It increases the support area and helps reduce the risk of a heavily loaded stud sinking too deeply into the rubber.

This is especially important in heavy machinery, where a single wheel can carry enormous loads.

But the core iGrip philosophy remains very simple:

Screw it in. Use it. Remove it when needed.

ONE PRINCIPLE. HUNDREDS OF APPLICATIONS.

It soon became clear that the same idea could be used far beyond a single vehicle category.

That is why iGrip models of different lengths, constructions and purposes were developed.

Today, iGrip solutions are used:

• in agriculture – on tractors and other farm machinery;
• in forestry – where machinery must operate on snow, ice and uneven surfaces;
• on heavy equipment – loaders, excavators, graders and special-purpose machines;
• on mining machinery – where traction and machine control can be especially important;
• on snowmobiles and ATVs – where grip on ice directly changes riding characteristics;
• on bicycles – when winter is not a reason to stop riding;
• and even on work, hiking and everyday footwear – where a few small studs can provide additional grip on icy surfaces.

From a small bicycle stud to the massive SS50 for heavy machinery, the principle remains the same.

WHEN A STANDARD SOLUTION IS NOT ENOUGH

The iGrip story is not only about manufacturing existing products.

A major part of it is developing new solutions.

Different machines, tires and working conditions require different studs.

That is why the iGrip range includes standard ST models, SS models with a supporting shoulder, different carbide tip shapes and specialized solutions for specific vehicles.

One of the most interesting examples is the SF11.

It is a special-purpose footwear stud made with a 100% ceramic working material. It was created for environments where avoiding sparks is important and is tested for dielectric performance and impact.

This reflects our approach:

We do not create one stud for everything. We look for the right solution to a specific problem.

FROM CANADA TO THE WORLD

What began in Quebec is no longer only a Canadian product.

The iGrip manufacturer’s distributor network has expanded beyond Canada, and its products can now be found in North America and Europe.

They are offered by agricultural equipment, powersports, industrial and specialized winter-product dealers.

But geography is not what matters most to us.

What matters much more is that the same small iGrip stud is chosen by very different people.

One needs it for an ATV.

Another for a tractor.

A third for a forestry machine.

Someone else for work boots.

Different countries. Different machines. Different winters.

The same problem – traction.

PRODUCTS ARE IMPROVED BY MORE THAN ENGINEERS

The best solutions are not created only at the drawing board.

They are created by listening to the people who use the product in real conditions.

That is why the experience of customers, professional users and machinery specialists is an important part of iGrip product development.

Which stud length is most suitable?

How much of it should remain above the tread?

How does it perform in a tire under heavy load?

What kind of tip is needed for a specific surface?

Sometimes the answer is a small design change.

Sometimes it is a completely new model.

That is why the iGrip product family continues to evolve.

SIMPLICITY YOU CAN FEEL

One of iGrip’s greatest advantages is not measured in millimetres.

It is simplicity.

Many models require no complicated installation equipment. Using the appropriate iGrip installation tool, studs can be screwed into suitable tread and removed later.

This allows studs to be installed in new tires and, depending on their condition and tread depth, in used tires as well.

This simplicity is why iGrip solutions are used on such a wide variety of machines – from a small snow blower to a large forestry or mining machine.

When someone buys iGrip, the most important question is not:

“How many studs do I need?”

The first question should be:

“Where will you use them?”

The right stud depends on the vehicle, tire, tread depth, load, surface and operating conditions.

That is why simply shipping a box is not enough for us.
